Men's Basketball Tamed the Tigers of Paul Quinn in 87-63 Victory
TEXARKANA, Texas - The Eagles hosted the Tigers of Paul Quinn in game two of a men's and women's Red River Athletic Conference double header yesterday afternoon. Men's Basketball would keep their win streak alive after defeating the Tigers 87-63.
Despite a slow start, the Eagles were able to take control of the ball game fueled by back-to-back three pointers by Deovaunta Williams and they did not look back. The Eagles shooting would be the key factor in what gave them the edge over the Tigers, as they would shoot 60% from the field, 58% from beyond the arc, and 100% from the line in the first half. At the half, TAMUT would be up 20 on the visiting Tigers with a score of 47-27. Deovaunta Williams would lead all scorers at the half with 12 points on 4-6 shooting (4-5 from beyond the arc).
In the second half, the two teams would exchange baskets back and forth, and the Eagles would only outscore the Tigers 40-36, however the lead built in the first half proved to be too much of a differential to overcome for the Tigers and the Eagles snagged their third conference win in a row with a final score of 87-63.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Daryl Houston and Deovaunta Williams who both recorded 14 points, and right behind them was teammate Jakari Livingston with 13 of his own. Jyrin Sowell would lead the Eagles in board with 6 and Justin Davis would tie his season high in assists with 6 on the game.
The Eagles move to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Men's Basketball will be back in action on Tuesday December 3rd versus the Steers of Texas College. Tipoff is set for 7:30pm following the completion of the Women's game prior.
