Eagles Men's Basketball Ranked 10th in Preseason Poll
The Red River Athletic Conference released their 2024-25 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll last week. The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Men's Basketball team has been ranked tenth in the conference for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
The Eagles, who finished 8-20 overall and 6-16 in conference during the previous season are looking to make moves this year under first year head coach Darion Brown. Brown comes to TAMUT from Jacksonville University where he was an assistant coach. Top returners for the Eagles include combo guard, Justin Davis who averaged 9.6 ppg and shot 40% from beyond the arc, and guard Jeff Norment who averaged 11.6 ppg and 4.7 rpg. The Eagles also brought in many new faces this season to assist in making a run for the tournament.
We had a chance to check in with Coach Brown after the release of the rankings and hear what his thoughts and plans for the season are. Brown shared:
"My plans for the upcoming season are just to compete at a high level. Not only on the basketball court but in the community, in the classroom, and in every obstacle or challenge we face this season we will compete. We have been building a new culture and my staff and I stress the importance of building great men. Our motto is "The Standard" and everyday we relentlessly take strides in reaching the goal of winning each day. As far as the rankings go this league is pretty deep, three-five teams in our league could have a chance to compete in the national tournament. Since I've been on campus we've worked tirelessly, and I feel our guys are ready to compete with the best of them. As the season continues to approach, the rankings will work itself out and we look forward to having a great year!"
The Eagles will play in their home opener on Thursday October 31st against the Crusaders of Dallas Christian College. Tip off is set for 5:30pm in the Patterson Student Center.
