TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana baseball team opened Red River Athletic Conference play over the weekend, hosting LSU Alexandria for a three-game series at George Dobson Field. Despite competitive stretches and offensive production throughout the weekend, the Eagles were unable to secure a win in their first RRAC set of the season.
Game 1: LSU Alexandria 6, Texas A&M–Texarkana 5
The Eagles battled throughout the conference opener Friday afternoon, out-hitting LSUA 10–8 and drawing eight walks, but fell just short in a 6–5 decision.
Michael Caputo powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Tobin Jones drove in three runs on a two-hit performance, while Jason Armendariz added two hits and an RBI.
TAMUT responded after trailing 4–1, plating two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a brief lead. However, LSUA answered late to reclaim control.
Tanner Duncan turned in a strong start, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out four. The bullpen worked to limit further damage, but the Generals capitalized in the final frames.
Game 2: LSU Alexandria 4, Texas A&M–Texarkana 3
Saturday's first game saw another tightly contested matchup.
Caputo continued to swing a hot bat with two hits and an RBI, while Colton Wombles tripled and drove in a run. Raul Ramirez delivered a pinch-hit RBI, and the Eagles worked seven walks to keep pressure on the LSUA pitching staff.
Connor Brady gave the Eagles 5.1 solid innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out four. Jeb Drewery and Ty Thomerson combined for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to keep TAMUT within striking distance.
The Eagles tied the game in the fourth and again threatened late, but were unable to find the equalizer in the final inning.
Game 3: LSU Alexandria 13, Texas A&M–Texarkana 10
The series finale turned into an offensive showdown, with the Eagles putting together their most explosive performance of the weekend.
TAMUT racked up nine hits and 11 walks, highlighted by a three-run home run from Jayce Blalock. Caputo added two more RBIs, Brandon Sheets recorded two doubles and drove in two runs, and Rian Cellers contributed an RBI.
After falling behind early, the Eagles surged back with a four-run fifth inning and a five-run sixth to take the lead. However, LSUA responded in the later innings to regain control and secure the series sweep.
