ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana — The A&M-Texarkana baseball team let an early lead slip away Friday in the opener of a three-game conference series against LSU-Alexandria, falling 12-10 in a result that also allows the Generals to leapfrog the Eagles in the conference standings.
The Eagles (13-16 overall, 10-6 RRAC) had an 8-2 lead in the fourth but couldn't hold it as the Generals got within a run in the bottom half of the same inning and eventually taking the lead with a three-run seventh frame. LSUA added two more in the eighth to take a 12-8 lead before the Eagles' ninth-inning rally fell short despite cutting the deficit in half.
TAMUT turned in another solid performance at the plate with 10 runs on 14 hits, including doubles by Dakota Leopold (3-for-5), Hunter Reid (2-for-3, 2 RBI), and TJ Krause (4 RBI). Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit and four players recorded multi-hit games.
The pitching staff had a rough outing, allowing 12 runs on 12 hits, walking seven batters, hitting two more and striking out only four. Marcus Tidwell (1-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh. Oscar Sanchez started the game but lasted just four innings after surrendering eight hits, four walks and seven earned runs in four innings.
The series resumes Saturday at noon with a doubleheader in Alexandria.
