STERLINGTON, Louisiana — A&M-Texarkana fell to 1-7 overall after dropping four games across two days during the 2024 Cajun Collision at the Sterlington Sports Complex. The Eagles opened with two games against ranked teams – 22nd-ranked Central Methodist (MO) and 25th-ranked Freed-Hardeman (TN). They finished Friday against Southwestern Assemblies of God and Loyola.

GAME 1 – Central Methodist 8, Eagles 3
Julian Macias hit a leadoff home run to put the Eagles in front in the first inning, but CMU scored three in the fourth to take the lead for good. Hunter Reid drove in a pair of runs to draw the Eagles closer at 5-3 in the fifth, but CMU added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. TJ Krause had three of the Eagles' six hits in the contest. Gage Mason took the loss, surrendering six hits and five runs while striking out nine across five innings.

GAME 2 – Freed-Hardeman 7, Eagles 2
Three Eagle errors helped Freed-Hardeman turn a 2-0 game into a 7-2 win for the Lions. The Eagles managed six hits – all singles – and Krause drove in both runs. Blake Taylor had his record slip to 1-1 after taking the loss despite a solid outing of five innings while allowing just five hits and four runs.

GAME 3 – SAGU 9, Eagles 7
Friday got off to a rough start as SAGU took a 9-0 lead over the Eagles before the offense arrived. Despite scoring four runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh, the Eagles left the tying runs aboard while SAGU closed out a narrow win. Jonathan Rios hit a two-run homer, TJ Hughes drove in three runs and Bobby Velasco plated a pair. Oscar Sanchez went four innings on the bump, giving up five hits and seven runs, but just one earned.

GAME 4 – Loyola 3, Eagles 2
Dylan Cabral mowed through Loyola hitters for the better part of six innings, striking out six while scattering seven hits, but he ultimately took the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Trailing 2-0, Dakota Leopold crushed a two-run shot over the left field wall to tie the game, but the Eagles were held to just five runs and unable to rally in the seventh. The five Eagle hits came from five different players, but only one – Leopold's home run – went for extra bases.

The Eagles will start conference play next week when they travel to Victoria for a three-game series against Houston-Victoria. Game 1 takes place Friday at 6 pm and the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
