STERLINGTON, Louisiana — The 2023 baseball season came to an end Sunday with a 5-1 loss to Louisiana Christian University at the RRAC Championship. A&M-Texarkana finishes the year with a record of 24-24.
Sunday's game was halted due to rain and lightning in the seventh inning, and after a delay of several hours, the Eagles twice had the bases full but were unable to overcome an early deficit. LCU (36-14) led 5-0 after three frames and the Eagles were held hitless through the first five frames.
They left the bases full in the sixth just before the weather delay, had them full again in the seventh and then managed a run in the ninth before stranding three baserunners to end the contest.
Luke Hyzdu had a pair of hits, Dylan Simmons also had two hits and Masashi Takegama doubled for the Eagles. Eric Spencer drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to pick up the Eagles' lone RBI. The Eagles drew five walks on the day but also struck out 12 times.
Collin Fenili (4-5) started and threw 107 pitches across seven innings, striking out four but surrendering 11 hits and three earned runs. Blake Taylor tossed a hitless inning of relief and Hunter Reid finished the ninth, striking out two.
