Eagles third in RRAC preseason baseball poll
With just a week until the 2023 baseball season begins, there's even more reason to get excited for Texas A&M-Texarkana baseball with the release of the Red River Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which has the Eagles sitting in the No. 3 spot.
To no surprise, defending champion LSU-Shreveport holds the top spot, receiving 10 of the 11 first-place votes, and LSU-Alexandria is second. But the Eagles, after making the RRAC tournament as the sixth seed a year ago, are hoping to be in the mix when the smoke clears this season.
Steve Jones enters his eighth season at the helm, having compiled 207 wins as TAMUT, including a 33-24 record last season that included a 20-13 conference mark. The Eagles upset third seed Our Lady of the Lake University in the opening round of the 2022 RRAC tournament, fell to second seed LSUA, then were eliminated by fifth seed University of the Southwest.
The Eagles will be led by Hunter Reid (JR/Plano, TX) and Kyle McMullen (SO/Dixon, CA), returning players who received 2nd Team All-RRAC honors during the 2022 season. The new campaign begins Feb. 3 with a doubleheader at Friends University (Kansas). The first home game is Feb. 14 against Lyon College.
