A&M-Texarkana Begins Search for Head Basketball Coaches
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's and women's basketball teams are beginning the search for new leadership. Men's head coach Darion Brown is heading to NCAA Division I Nicholls State to take the role of head coach after going 40-21 in his two seasons leading the Eagles, while also raising the team's GPA to 3.41, the highest team GPA in program history.
Women's coach Deacon Jones coached one season with the Eagles, going 20-10 for the year and will be taking the head coach position at LSU Shreveport, a team that consistently ranks among the top NAIA programs in the country.
"I would like to thank Deacon Jones for his dedication, leadership, and the positive influence he has had on our student-athletes at Texas A&M University–Texarkana," said A&M-Texarkana Director of Athletics Ryan Wall. "His commitment to excellence and the relationships he built will have a lasting impact on our program, and we wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter."
"Congratulations goes out to Darion Brown on an incredible and well-earned achievement—being named the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Nicholls State University," Wall continued. "Becoming an NCAA Division I head coach is a significant milestone and a testament to his relentless work ethic, leadership, and commitment to developing young men on and off the court."
The university has accepted an invitation to join the Lone Star Conference, one of NCAA Division II's most competitive, pending membership acceptance into NCAA Division II this July. The Eagles currently compete in the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference.
